About Our School

St. Vincent de Paul is one of two Catholic schools in Strathroy.  It opened in 1989 and underwent major reconstruction in 1997.  The school is a handicap accessible facility and offers academic programs to students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. We nurture a Christ-centred learning environment enabling all students to realize their full potential.

The Ontario Curriculum (mandated by the Ministry of Education), alongside the Catholic Graduate Expectations provide the framework from which all planning begins. The school provides a range of support services (e.g. Speech and Language, Program Support Teacher, psychometric testing) to assist students with learning difficulties.

Facilities

Our school has 10 regular classrooms. We have a well-equipped resource centre and a full size gym. There is also a health room, a handicapped washroom as well as a meeting room. Our school is completely wheelchair accessible.
The YMCA operates a licensed child care program in a facility attached to our building. Before and afterschool programs are available through the YMCA.

Living Our Faith

The staff and students of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School have many opportunities to pray and demonstrate their Catholic faith.  These include school-wide and classroom liturgies, the celebration of the Sacraments of First Eucharist and Reconciliation in grade two and the Sacrament of Confirmation in grade eight. Our school works closely with All Saints Parish in Strathroy. We have monthly masses and we invite all members of our school community to share in our celebrations.

Our school community supports many charitable endeavors throughout the year such as Terry Fox, the United Way, Missions, Woman’s Resource Centre of Strathroy, Christmas gifts for the less fortunate in our community, and Save A Family Plan.

Transportation Information

Most of the students at St. Vincent de Paul walk to school. There are some students who ride buses and some of our students with special needs are also bused. Bus delays and cancellations can be viewed on the LDCSB website: www.mybigyellowbus.ca

School Safety

Safety is a priority at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School. Our school has in place a Safe Arrival Procedure, Anti Bullying Initiatives, and Social Skills Programs.  We also have a Healthy and Safe Schools Committee (Health Squad) that organizes a variety of student events.
